Vincent has been personifying my favorite cartoon lately. The one where a guy stumbles across a dancing frog, complete with top hat and cane, that struts back and forth singing, "Hello my honey, hello my baby, hello my ragtime gal!!?" The guy then places the frog in front of a packed theater expecting the audience to be stunned by his routine. But the frog only sits there, sans top hat and cane, exhaling a low "rrrribbbit."
When we are alone I often tinker a toy or caress Vincent's cheek as I request a smile for mommy and he usually complies. I laugh and he squints as his smile grows to an open-mouthed gafaw. My heart melts and I can't wait to show everyone. I bring him to Edwin or Nonna Hesse, tinker a toy and caress his cheek ask for a smile and he gives a blank expression, farts and closes his eyes. "No, seriously, he smiles a lot." I say, " Wait, wait...there it is...no... wait...hold on...."
"rrrribbbit"
Daddy has found his own personal way of making Vincent smile: he uses the tip of a blanket and brushes it across Vincent's chin:Aaahhh ... free happiness...
Vincent had a routine Doctor's visit today. Dr. Kavin walked in and said, "Vincent's already two months old! They grow so fast!" For some reason that reality didn't hit home with me until he said it. It's already been two months! The memory of his birth is still so fresh in my mind. I'm still adjusting to the fact time is measured so differently when you have a child. Vincent is now 11 pounds and measures 23 1/2 inches - he is, of course, perfect! I know , I know... did you expect anything less from us?
